The mountain of Peneda in Peneda-Gerês National Park is one of the last strongholds for the Iberian Wolf in the wild. Despite conflicts with local communities, due to the damage caused to cattle, men and wolves have shared this territory for centuries, and have contributed to a high cultural heritage in this region.
One of the places where there are some vestiges of the Iberian wolf is Castro Laboreiro Plateau, which holds one of the largest megalithic necropolis in the Iberian peninsula with dolmens and rock engravings. In this area we can also see many animals in the wild, as horses, roe deers and wild boars.
